Newspaper Articles – Lone Jack Historical Society

Shortly after the War ended the soldiers of the Civil War began to hold reunions all across the country. The men who fought at Lone Jack held their first reunion on August 16, 1867. This reunion, however, was held only for the Federal soldiers.

Soon they put aside their differences and both Federal and Confederate soldiers attended. As the old soldiers passed on, it became a celebration of their heroism and a memorial to their sacrifice. The town of Lone Jack still holds that celebration on the weekend closest to the anniversary of the battle.
