William L. Roney, a member of the 8th Missouri State Militia, Co F., was responsible for placing the Union monument in the Soldiers Cemetery. Below are a series of articles and letters written by and about Roney and published in various newspapers.
One was written directly to Missouri’s Governor Hadley. It also includes a response from the governor’s office.
He tried for many years to get a grand monument placed on the battlefield but unfortunately he passed away before his dream ever became a reality.
