
Henry Moore was born in Blount Co., Tennessee in 1823. He was the second oldest child of Nathaniel Davis Moore and Margaret (Peggy) Dyche (Dyke). His ancestors saw service in the American Revolution.
On October 18, 1849, Henry married Martha Malinda Gillespy or Gillespie in Blount Co., Tennessee. By January of 1855 the family was living in Webster Co., Missouri.
According to the 1860 census, he was living in Hazelwood Township, Webster Co., Missouri with his wife and 5 children and he listed himself as a farm laborer.
Henry was mustered in as Captain of Company H, 8th Missouri State Militia Cavalry at Lynn Creek, Missouri on April 14, 1862 by Col. McClurg.
In the Battle of Lone Jack, Henry D. was wounded. His older brother, also named Henry Moore, was mortally wounded and died of the wounds. Capt. Moore continued to serve throughout the rest of the war and mustered out of service on April 13, 1865 in Springfield, Missouri.
On the 1870 census, Henry lived in Sheridan, Crawford Co., Kansas with Martha and 5 children. He listed himself as a farmer with a Personal Estate Value of $1,000. Henry Dyke Moore was a member of the Labor Union Party and was elected to the Kansas State Senate as the Democratic Party Nominee. Moore was from Monmouth, Kansas, and served District 14 in parts of Bourbon, Crawford, and Cherokee Counties. There is an indication that on August 31, 1877 Henry married Mary Jane Prigman or Prigmore in Douglas Co., Missouri. If this is true, the marriage did not last very long.
Henry married again on May 14, 1880, to a widow, Mary A. Woodward, and he was using the name Decatur Stone. Mary A. Stone filed for his pension after his death.
Henry filed for a pension on March 1, 1888.
Henry died on January 21, 1892 in Hagarville, Johnson Co., Arkansas. His grave site is unknown.
