
Daniel P. Stubblefield was born in McLean, McLean Co., Illinois on February 28, 1842. He was the third child of John M. Stubblefield and Martha Ellen Goodwin. In 1850 Daniel was living with his parents and five brothers in McLean Co. By 1857, the family had moved to Caldwell Co., Missouri.
In 1860, Daniel was living with his parents, five brothers and one sister in Davis Township, Caldwell Co., Missouri. He and his siblings attended school within the year. On February 28, 1862, Daniel mustered into Co. E of the 6th Missouri State Militia Cavalry in Cameron, Missouri. He had blue eyes, dark hair, a fair complexion and was 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was listed as a farmer. Daniel owned his own horse and horse equipment. Daniel was mustered in as the 3rd Sergeant. He was joined by his brother Robert.
In the Battle of Lone Jack, Daniel survived without being wounded or losing his own $100 horse. On March 1, 1863, Daniel was appointed Quarter Master Sergeant, appointed Commissary Sergeant on July 25, 1863. and promoted to 1st Sergeant to rank from September 14, 1864. He mustered out of service on March 27, 1865 in Springfield. Missouri.
On September 16, 1866, Daniel married Alice Melissa Phares in Caldwell Co., Missouri. A daughter, Laura, was born to them in October, 1867, and a second daughter was born on August 26, 1869. Daniel’s father, John, passed away on September 24, 1869.
On the 1870 census, Daniel was living in Kingston Township, Caldwell Co. with Alice and one daughter, the earlier daughter having passed away on February 8,1870. He was listed as the County Sheriff and had a Real Estate value of $2.300. In 1872 he was chosen as a Representative to the State Legislature.
In 1880 the census shows that Daniel. Alice, a son, a daughter, and Daniel’s brother, Robert were living in Fairview Township, Caldwell Co. Missouri. He listed his occupation as a farmer. A son was born into the family on December 4, 1882, but died on May 14, 1885. Daniel’s mother died on May 10, 1889.
By 1900 Daniel and Alice were living on his farm in a rented home with his stepmother and a servant. On September 23, 1903 Alice died.
According to the 1910 census record, Daniel was living with his brother, Stephen and his family in Kingston City, Caldwell Co., Missouri. In the column headed occupation, Daniel had listed “own income”. On May 23, 1911, Daniel was appointed as a postmaster for Kingston.
In 1920, Daniel is living with his brother, Robert, and two other relatives. In 1930, Daniel is living in his nephew’s home along with his brother, Robert, and his sister, Mollie.
Daniel died on August 15, 1933 and he is buried in the Kingston Cemetery in Kingston, Missouri.
