Jul 14 1905 The Lone Jack picnic will be held as usual on the 16th
day of Aug. and on a larger scale than ever before. The
committee having it in charge is: D. Lee Shawhan,
president: Price Bennett, secretary: Henry Cave,
treasurer: Julian Jackson, John Bynum Frank Kennedy and
Robert Pilcher.
Nov 1 1907 The strong winds of the past week uprooted trees, damaged
young orchards, blew down rail fences and unroofed cribs
and sheds. Mrs. Julia Shawhan had a wind mill totally
wrecked and the ventilator on Jesse Cave’s barn was blown
off.
Jan 10 1908 The rock road running south from the main road to Lee’s
Summit and approaching Lone Jack from the west has been
completed and the machinery taken to Kansas City.
Apr 1908 The Aid Society of the Christian church will give an
Easter supper when the autograph quilt will be sold at
auction Thursday night. Supper 25 cents each.
Apr 1908 The Aid Society cleared $24.30 at their Easter Supper
last Thursday. They had a fine time and a splendid menu.
Apr 1908 The ladies Missionary society of the Baptist church had
five dollars worth of postal cards printed last week.
They are endeavoring to raise a mile of pennies—16
pennies to the foot. This is for improvement on the
church, and land sakes, but it needs it!
Dec 4 1908 Wm Hill of Lee’s Summit has purchased Dr. Ragsdale’s Drug
store and is building a sixteen foot addition there to.
He will take possession Jan. 1 and will move his family
to Aunt Sallie Lightfoot’s property. Dr. Ragsdale as
conducted a drug store here for twenty years or more.
Mar 1910 The White Oak telephone Company decided to incorporate.
The present stockholders not desiring to enter the
incorporation will be allowed the rental of their phones
to the amount of their stock.
Aug 26 1910 The citizens met and cleaned the graveyard last Saturday.
as it is their custom to do every year. A fund was
contracted by assessment to hire a caretaker for the
graveyard. This is a good movement and one that should
have been taken long ago.
Feb 11 1911 Mr. Nichols family moved to Lone Jack Monday. They will
take charge of the switch and be Lone Jack central.
Feb 16 1911 The Royal neighbors Lodge met last Friday night for their
annual supper and installation of officers.
Mar 24-1911 Dr W T Kemper reports a new girl at the home of Mr & Mrs
Otho Vaughan last Monday.
Mr. & Mrs. Tinsley Porter informational that their son born
to their home some two weeks ago died last Monday, the
burial was at Stoney Point church Tuesday.
Apr 7 1911 There appears to be a considerable small pox in the
vicinity now, Lew Flemons, Mrs. Will O’Brien, Mrs. Jim
Courtney and daughter Nora, Wheeler Horton Bennie Gilliam
Marion Webb, Miss Ruby Crabtree, Mr & Mrs Dan Holmes all
having it.
The city council in regular session assessed a fine of one
dollar to everyone not complying with the city law as to
cleaning your premises of the winter accumulation of trash
this is not too large but the law says from $1.00 to $5.00.
Apr 26 1911 We are this week printing an extra edition for the Lone
Jack Cemetery Association. 500 of these will be sent out
to the friends of the Association by the Secretary, Dr. W.
T. Kemper.
May 4 1911 On last Saturday night Bill Woods colored man of this city
shot and instantly killed Chester Beadles, also colored We
firmly believe the coroner’s verdict will be that it was a
case of justifiable homicide.
May 26 1911 The ice house built by F.M. Williams is completed and he
has quite a quantity of ice.
Jun 1 1911 Miss Elizabeth Kemper daughter of Dr. & Mrs. W.T. Kemper
of this city returned home last Sunday from Kansas City
where she had been attending school Choctaw Central High
school. Miss Kemper is unable to use her lower limbs and
goes from place to place In a wheel chair, She likes
school and her work fine and is in every way a very bright
and lovable young lady. She desires us to express her
thanks to her teacher and classmates for their kindness
of help to her in her school work and assure them of her
appreciation.
Jun 1 1911 The Men’s Bible class of the Christian Church, Rev. E.M.
Yates teacher, had their monthly business and social
meeting Monday night at the church, those present report a
royal good time a fine lunch was served.
Jun 16 1911 Last Saturday morning the death angel visited the home of
Mr. & Mrs. Dan Holmes and took from them their little son
aged about three years. The little fellow had been sick for
several days with pneumonia. The funeral was preached at
the Christian Church Sunday by Rev. B.E. Thursfield after
which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at this
place.
Jun 23 1911 The Spencer Bros have purchased the livery barn and outfit
of Milt Rogers and took charge immediately.
Jul 7 1911 Mrs. Dr. P.R. Chambers is very low at this writing.
Jul 7 1911 The 4th was quiet here. Those who did not go elsewhere
spent the day at home. We certainly had no noise here not
even a fire cracker was exploded.
Aug 11 1911 Dr W.T. Kemper is suffering greatly from a spider bite on
the hand. He is unable to leave his room.
Aug 18 1911 The Lone Jack annual picnic will be held on the 18th of
Aug. 1911.
Aug 25 1911 The annual picnic of Lone Jack was well attended last
Friday and all report a good time.
Sep 1 1911 Dr W.T. Kemper is now able to attend to his practice.
Sep 15 1911 A wedding of much interest occurred last Sunday afternoon
when Miss Sallie Yates and Mr. Charles Williams were united
in marriage by Rev H.C. Walker.
Oct 6 1911 A surprise dinner was given by the neighbors and friends
of Mr & Mrs. John Bynum last Tuesday.
Oct 20 1911 George and James Vaughn are attending school at Lee’s
Summit.
Oct 27 1911 Charley Martin is building a new residence on Main Street.
Nov 3 1911 Mr. & Mrs. Tinsley Porter entertained the young people
Thursday evening with a Halloween party. All report a
splendid time.
Nov 10 1911 Miss Pearl Kemper entertained the young folks Saturday
night with a tacky party.
Nov 24 1911 The members of the Christian Church are making preparations
to repair and repaint the church building.
Dec 1 1911 Rev. J.W. Hill began a series of meetings at the Baptist
Church last Sunday.

Apr 12 1912 Mrs. P.R. Chambers died at her home in Lone Jack Monday
morning. Funeral services at the Methodist Church.

the church.
May 3 1912 Miss Lizzie Kemper left Monday for Kansas City to attend
school.
May 17 1912 The Lone Jack baseball team defeated Pleasant Hill last
Saturday by a score of 8 to 3.
May 24 1912 Several improvements are being made on residences in our
city.
