Dewitt C. Hunter’s Regiment

The 11th Missouri Infantry Regiment (also known as Hunter’s Missouri Infantry Regiment and 8th Missouri Infantry Regiment (Burns’) was an infantry regiment that served in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. The unit was mustered into Confederate service as an Infantry Unit on August 31, 1862, although many of the men recruited for the regiment had already seen action at the Battle of Lone Jack.

COMPANY A, July 21 to Dec 31, 1862

Lieutenants Gibson & Cross with 25 men of this company started from Vanburen Ark on the 2th day of July 1862 under command of Col. Cockrel and marched to Lone Jack in Mo distance 250 miles ____ They engaged the enemy on the 16 day of August defeating them and capturing two pieces of rifled Canon and then returning to Bentonville, Ark Aug. 22 1862. This Company lost in the action 1 Lieutenant and three privates wounded.

COMPANY C, Aug 27 to Dec 31, 1862

This Company was organized _____ & while in this ____ a part of it march from near Vanburen in Ark to Lone Jack Mo a distance of 250 miles. Engaged the Federals & routed them with no loss, neither killed no wounded.

COMPANY E, Aug 31 to Dec 31, 1862

Was engaged at Lone Jack with the enemy, Aug 16, 1862. In Lone Jack Battle Loss three killed and two wounded, one severely, one slightly.

COMPANY F, Aug 2 to Dec 31, 1862

This Company was Cavalry and went on a scout to Lone Jack, MO from near Van Buren Ark distance about 250 miles – Encountered the enemy at that point, routing them and returning to Camp near Fayetteville, Ark. Having two men wounded who were left in Hospital at Lone Jack, Mo. One has since returned to duty the other one never heard from.

COMPANY G, Aug 31 to Dec 31, 1862

A part of this Company was in the raid made into Missouri under Col. Cockrell, Hunter and Coffee and were engaged at Lone Jack by the 6 & 7th Mo Fes and 1 reg of Militia with 2 pieces of Artillery on the 16th of August 1862. Routed them and took all their baggage and artillery and a great many small arms, killing their commander, 2 wounds.

COMPANY I, To Sept 13, 1862

A part of this Company started on a scout from Vanburen, Arkansas on the 1st Aug 1862 a distance of three hundred (300) miles had an engagement at Lone Jack Mo with the Federal forces on Aug 16, 1862 which resulted in a complete route of the enemy.
